Description
The potential of in situ techniques for the cost-effective remediation of contaminated sites is becoming more widely recognised. An advantage is that they avoid the environmental impacts and costs associated with excavation and off-site disposal of contaminated soil or liquid media. This guide is a case study that describes the use of a remedial treatment techniqur to stabilise a contaminated 'hot spot' within an old landfill containing industrial waste. It details the application of deep in-situ soil mixing, using a cementitious slurry, to encapsulate and neutralise contaminated waste within a landfill from which contaminated groundwater is leaching into an adjacent estuary.
