Repurposing and reconfiguring buildings

This publication brings together a diverse panel of industry experts including designers, planners, clients, cost consultants, and insurance experts to provide high-level guidance on the range of opportunities available for transforming existing buildings, and to inform decision making. It is hoped this can support the aim towards a lower carbon and more circular built environment; building reuse can be a powerful and immediately available tool in reducing embodied carbon. The information is divided into five main topics on the common opportunities, challenges, and possible solutions that are often encountered during both design and construction. The intention is to allow a deeper understanding of the topics and arm readers with the knowledge to identify them early in the process, to maximise potential and manage risks when making decisions.
