Excluded materials: an industry survey

Excluded Material lists were introduced to the UK construction industry in the late 1980s by building clients and their advisers in an attempt to highlight the dangers posed by the use of particular materials and to provide a contractual safeguard against their use. CIRIA commissioned a survey to investigate the extent of these lists and to identify materials included together with any stated reasons for their inclusion. This guide contains the results of the survey.
